The importance of the correct decision when selecting fabrics

CURTAINS AND SHEERS

Any drape used in a contract situation is subject to the following flame retardant standards:

BS 5867 Part 2 Type B / EN 13773 Harmonised European Standard

  • Face Ignition test ( Flame applied for 15 seconds )
  • Pass = Flame does not reach any edge of fabric test piece
  • Pass = No flaming debris from test fabric

UPHOLSTERY AND HEADBOARDS

Upholstered furniture used in a contract environment require to be tested to the following flame retardant standards:

Performance Standard BS 7176 – Medium Hazard – HOTELS, PUBLIC BUILDINGS and HEALTH ENVIORMENTS

  • Tested to Cigarette (EN 1021 – 1) and Match (EN – 1021 – 2) and Crib 5 (BS 5852) sources

BEDDING AND BEDS

Under contract regulations these are the following standards which may be considered for the fabric being used.

BS 7175 – Bed covers and Bed Throws

  • Cigarette, Match and Crib 5 ignition sources are used to satisfy the safety level based on a risk assessment

BS 7177 Beds and Mattresses

  • Medium hazard – Cigarette, Match and Crib 5
